Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of blade number variations on the performance of a horizontal axis wind turbine in generating electrical energy. The blade variations used were 4, 8, and 12 blades. The measured parameters included rotational speed (rpm) and output voltage (V). The testing was carried out using a DC generator to convert mechanical energy into electrical energy, while the measurement data were recorded using a voltmeter and a tachometer. The results show that increasing the number of blades is directly proportional to the increase in rotational speed and voltage. In the 4-blade variation, the turbine produced a rotational speed of 180.8 rpm with a voltage of 27.2 V. In the 8-blade variation, the rotational speed increased to 323.8 rpm with a voltage of 30.6 V. The best performance was obtained in the 12-blade variation, which produced a rotational speed of 487.9 rpm and a voltage of 35.6 V. It can be concluded that the number of blades significantly affects the performance of the wind turbine. The 12-blade variation provided the most optimal results under the testing conditions and is recommended for small-scale wind turbine applications.
