Abstract

River ecosystems are vital for environmental sustainability but are increasingly threatened by domestic waste accumulation and sedimentation. This community service initiative aimed to restore the ecological function of a local river while fostering pro-environmental behavior among residents. Conducted on July 2, 2026, in Padukuhan Kepitu, Sleman Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, the program utilized a participatory approach rooted in the local wisdom of gotong royong (mutual assistance). The activities encompassed preparation, physical cleaning of the riverbanks, and waste segregation. The outcomes demonstrated significant improvements in water flow, enhanced environmental sanitation, and strengthened social cohesion. This initiative highlights that community-driven grassroots actions are essential for sustainable environmental conservation and disaster mitigation.
