Abstract

This study aims to describe the form and function of directive speech acts in provocative posts related to the Laras Faizati case on Instagram and to explain their context through a forensic linguistic approach. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method with a pragmatic and forensic linguistic approach. Data—consisting of Instagram posts, captions, and comments related to the case—were collected through observation, note-taking, and documentation. The results indicate that the utterances in the Laras Faizati case serve various communicative functions, one of which is to direct others to take action. Of the four pieces of content analyzed, Data 3 exhibits the strongest characteristics of a directive speech act because it contains a request that explicitly directs action through the words “burn” and “get.” The interpretation of the utterance must take into account the visual context, the demonstration situation, the time of posting, and the sequence of utterances that serve as its background. This study demonstrates that the analysis of directive speech acts in forensic linguistics must consider the form, function, and context of the utterance without using them as the basis for determining criminal liability.
